Target Trafficking 2022 Recap Video
There are an estimated 27 million people trapped in slavery in our world today. That is more people in slavery than at any other time in human history. In the United States, there are nearly 500,000 people trapped in the trafficking industry. Iowa is one of the crossroads of domestic sex trafficking in the US. Statistics indicate that are 100-200 internet posts daily in Iowa advertising the sale of sex. These facts might be leaving you feeling sad, angry and overwhelmed - wondering how you can help.
Our family was feeling the same way. Then, in April of 2021, we had a speaker from Wings of Refuge share at our church, Harvest Evangelical Free Church in Story City, Iowa, and encourage us to “Do What You Love to Fight What You Hate.” Our family loves archery. We decided to host our first 3D Archery Shoot on Saturday August 7, 2021 as a Fundraiser for this amazing organization – Wings of Refuge (www.wingsofrefuge.net) Our first event was a HUGE success. Praise the Lord! We received such positive feedback from participants, had so much help and encouragement that we decided to make Target Trafficking a yearly event. And that's how Target Trafficking was born.
ONE MORE is the social enterprise program that provides trauma informed employment opportunities at Wings of Refuge. Survivors of sex trafficking learn practical job skills by making hand-crafted products while earning an income. ONE MORE provides a meaningful job and a path to independence as she saves for her future. Through your purchase of survivor-made products, sex trafficking ends and restoration is possible.
" As men and women in the outdoors and outdoor industry, we often focus our reaching out to either grow hunter numbers, sponsor a conservation project, or spread awareness of the great part we have played in restoring and conserving America’s wildlife and wild places. Many people attack hunters for being old-fashioned, outdated, or unethical in our way of life. We can and should focus on the “guard the gate” mentality that has allowed the North American model of conservation to thrive and succeed while preserving our rights, but there is another tactic we can use. This shoot allows us to use our knowledge and love of hunting, archery, and the outdoors to spotlight and fight back against one of the true evils of this world - sex trafficking."
